Gas Prices — Who is to blame?

I rarely post political rants here, but I’m making an exception today.

Gas prices are crazy!!!  When the weather gets nice on a consistent basis, I’m going to start riding my bike to the office whenever I can — fuels costs are busting our budget.

But who’s to blame?

Well, despite what you might have heard in the media, from your neighbor, or from a co-worker — it is not your local gas station.  It is not even the big oil companies.  It is a matter of supply and demand — when supply is down and demand is up, guess what happens to prices?  They go through the roof!  That’s what’s happening right now.  India and China are growing rapidly, creating a need for more and more energy (higher demand).  At the same time, the supply of fuel is not keeping up with the increased demand.  Thus, the high prices.

But who is to blame for this mess?  The Democrats in congress.  Because they’re beholden to the radical environmentalists, they have worked hard to see to it that the supply does not increase.  Let’s look at some examples:

They have made it next to impossible to build any new nuclear plants (the safest, cleanest, and cheapest form of energy), thus increasing our dependence on fossil fuels.  There are large oil fields in Alaska, North Dakota and the Gulf of Mexico, but the Democrats in congress have not allowed the oil companies to drill there.  They have made it next to impossible to build any new refineries in this country.

The demand for oil is not going to decrease any time soon, so unless steps are taken to increase the supply, get used to spending a lot of your household budget on gas.

Thanks to the Democrats.

  • So far, so good for the Lions. An offensive lineman and a linebacker — two of their needs. #
  • I’m actually impressed with the Lions’ draft picks. Nothing flashy — just filling needs. #
