My family and I competed in the BalloonFest 5K here in Ashland today. The picture above is all of us before the race (we’ll spare you the after photos). It was the first race for my wife and daughter. My wife says it is also her last! But my daughter did great — she won the 10 and under age group with a time of 30:34. My son beat us all (he’s already doing voluntary practices for Cross Country, so we expected him to do well).

The picture below is of a man who ran the entire race barefoot! It was incredible — I just had to take his picture. It looked painful to me, but he looked like he did it all the time. I guess he doesn’t have to bother with the endless search for the perfect running shoe.

Coming soon: BalloonFest pictures.

Congratulations! I’ve walked a 5k and hope to run one someday.
Well, I know Jeff is in training (I saw the schedule on the fridge) and I know Eli has to run to talk to Jacob. So good for you Jill and good for you Emma!!!
So proud! Great job Slaters! I watched movies today…very productive.
Hi,
I came across your website whilst searching for a picture of an Olive tree and saw your comments for 05/07. Have you read a book called ‘The Master Plan of Evangelism’? I appreciate your desire to impact the community around you and hope that God will lead you to His plan for where you live. That book will certainly provide you with insight into Jesus’ strategy and His plan to win the world. I attend a church in Reading, England called Thames Valley Churches of Christ and was glad to see your blog.
Good race results! Congratulations to you and your family for even entering the race!
Way too much for me to do, but I admire people who can run and do. I don’t even walk much any more since all my problems with my feet from being diabetic for so long – 37 years.
You have a good looking family and a bunch of winners.
Dee
Congratulations! Good for you. I did five K, cumulative, last year. I guess if your kids run with you, they won’t run from you later.
Too cool. I don’t know how many road races I’ve run and thought, “I’m never doing that again,” only to do it again and again. It’s addicting.
I’m envious Jeff – wish my whole family would run with me.
Blessings
PS – Have you ever noticed what shoes most serious runners wear and don’t wear when running? Seems to me that I hardly see Nike’s, but ever thing else.
I’ve really got to where I’m loving Adidas.
Did I tell you about the guy Laura and I ran into on our backpacking hike on the AT in May? He was hiking the whole AT (over 2000 miles) barefoot. His feet looked like hobbits feet. His pack, tent and other things were homemade out of Tyvec home wrap. Now THAT was strange. He has a website and is doing it for vets.
Found you on Mike Cope with your 2,000,000 prize hit. Anybody that roots for or has any connections to the University of Alabama is A OK in my book!
Peace.
Thanks for all the congrats.
Trey — I see more Asics than anything else. My son and I were running in Nikes, and my wife and daughter were running in Asics.
Tim — the barefoot thing amazes me. I guess its because my feet are so tender. I wear shoes 99% of the time! I can’t go from the house to the mailbox in bare feet — I can’t imagine doing the Appalachian Trail!
It was you??? You were the lucky winner at Preachermike? Congrats are in order all over the place for you Jeff! What did you win?
How’ve you been? I haven’t been over here in quite a while. I’m glad to see you’re still focusing on the important things in life like the perfect running shoes.
lol
Just wanted you to know that I think of your uncle and the posts you’ve done about him everytime I think about heroism, bravery, people dying for our country, etc. There’s something about the way you’ve presented him and his story and the pride you have in his sacrifice that reminds me to be very grateful for his and every other serviceman and woman’s sacrifice for our country. Thanks for the visual Jeff!
Blessings to you and your running family!
What a GREAT looking family!
You da man,
DU
