I had the opportunity to see Bob Seger for a third (and last) time on his current tour. This was the 50th and final show of the tour, and it was at Cobo Arena in Detroit – the same place he recorded Live Bullet! back in 1975. This show was also recorded (and filmed).
Let me just say that he saved the best for last. This show was far better than the other two I saw. You’ve probably heard the saying (regarding an athlete), “He left everything on the field” — meaning, of course, that he gave everything he had. Well, it was clear that Seger and the band left everything on the stage. It was absolutely incredible. I have been to a lot of concerts, but I cannot recall one that was better than this.
I went by myself, and had a seat on the main floor – 22 rows from the stage. The crowd was really into it, standing, dancing and singing along for the entire 2 hour and 20 minute show. Being a good Church of Christ boy, I did not dance (as far as you know).
I have been a Bob Seger fan since the late ’70s when I bought Live Bullet! (and occasionally borrowed my sister’s copy of Beautiful Loser), but I had never seen him in concert. Saturday night’s show at Cobo Arena more than made up for that. Read a review of the show Here.
While in Detroit, I also got to go to one of my favorite restaurants.

You are a cool Church of Christ boy!
Did I ever tell you we tried to make “Night Moves” our class song? The teacher’s wouldn’t let us….but obviously he is one of my favorites too! I love people that will do stuff by themselves!
I am very glad that you got to see this concert!!! I bet you did a little dancing in the middle of that crowd. By the way, what is your favorite Detroit restaurant?
Paul — it is American Coney Island (the corner of Lafayette and Michigan Avenue). Click on the words “favorite restaurants” for more info.
Is that you holding up your cigarette lighter?
Wow, Jeff – I’m envious of you getting to go to the Seger concert. Cool! If I had been there, I DEFINITELY would have been dancing!
Would you like to do an interview for me for over at Finding Direction? I’ll send it to you via email while you think about it. Everyone has been great to do them and I run them every Tuesday. Actually, last Tuesday Patrick’s pet parrot, Scooby, the Wonder Parrot, gave me an exclusive interview that was absolutely outstanding! You’ll have to read it if you haven’t. Patrick’s bird outdid herself.
Jeff … sounds like you had a great time. I love a good classic rock concert. Me and my 17 year old son were going to see Boston this summer on their ’07 tour. Unfortuately they found the lead singer dead about a week ago. Looks like we’ll have to make a different concert.
Blessings
“Against the Wind” is my favorite. The older I get the more sense it makes–obviously.
Jeff,
You said,”This show was also recorded (and filmed).”
Do you happen to know if this was for a Seger DVD? I’m hoping it was instead for HDNet. I’d love to watch that high defintion concert in my basement!
NewHoosier –
No one really knows. Some are saying it will be a DVD and possibly a live album. There has been nothing official from the Seger camp.
But it was quite a production — they had cameras everywhere. So, I don’t think they would go to all that expense and not do anything with it.
