YES!!! Magglio Ordonez hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, winning the game and completing the sweep of the Oakland A’s. The Tigers win the American League Pennant and advance to the World Series!
I’ve been a Tigers fan since I was a little boy, and I can’t tell you how exciting this is! Chew ‘Em Up, Tigers! And don’t stop until the World Championship is yours!

Congratulations!
Are you making predictions as to who the opponent will be?

Go, Tigers! I came to Michigan as a college freshman just in time for the Tigers to win it all in 1968. I was back in Michigan in 1984 and was able to attend one of the World Series games at Tiger Stadium. It’s 2006, and it’s been a long, long, embarrassing drought. Here’s a team that’s lost 502 games in the past five years. Pinch me! I can’t believe it. What a turnaround year this has been. Prediction: Tigers beat the Cardinals in six.
Bill,
I think it will be the Cards. As for a World Series prediction, I just don’t know. If the Tigers aren’t too rusty after a week off, they should be able to handle St. Louis.
Mark — I was only 4-years-old in 1968, so I don’t remember that series. But I was a sophmore at Hardingwhen they won it all in 1984, and I have fond memories of that. I also remember when they lost the ALCS to the A’s in 1972.
World Series tickets go on sale tomorrow. I would like to get a standing room only ticket for one of the first two games (but standing room only costs $75!!!)
I was fixing an air vent in the living room when Magglio came up and I actually thought to myself “If he hits one out, am I going to drop this vent and run to the TV or hold it while I watch standing on a chair?”. I dropped it.
This will really be an exciting series….hmmm I have many blogging friends who are Card fans, and then there is you the big Tiger fan…who to be for???
But I was very excited for you when the Tigers clenched! (and I did live in Michigan for my first 5 years…..don’t tell anyone, but I will be pulling for your Tigers!)
It’s fun living in Detroit when the Tigers are in the World Series. This town pulls together for their teams when it hits this level. Without Ben Wallace, this year’s Pistons might not light the fires and the Redwings haven’t done well since the strike ended (but, funnily enough, they didn’t lose a single game during the strike) so it might have to be the Tigers to bring a little joy to Motown. Oh, you ask about the Lions? Those aren’t cheerleaders on the sidelines, bucky. Those are grief counselors.
CONGRATS! Maybe my Cards can pull it out and play the Series against your Tigers………..just like 68. Cept you don’t have Denny McLain this time!

Way to go Tigers! The city is going crazy in anticipation of the Series. I am rooting for the Mets to be fodder for the Tigers, but it looks like the Cardinals in a repeat of 1968!
