Dodge announced today that it is going to build the Challenger. This is great news. My son and I saw the concept car at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this year, but we didn’t think they were actually going to build it. I guess they saw the success of the new retro Mustang and decided to go ahead with it. In my not-so-humble opinion, the Challenger blows away the new Mustang.
It may be out in less than two years. I guess I’ll have to start making plans to trade in my ’96 Honda Civic!

I love it but you know I can’t buy a Dodge! The lady that I babysat for when I was VERY young had one. I thought she was SO cool!
I hope you have a pile of money somewhere for your trips to the gas station. What’ll that thing do mileage-wise?
It is Sweet, though. Looks a lot like the old days. Black vinyl interior and a MOPAR sticker on the bumper will complete it.
Now Jeff … that is NOT a preacher’s car!!
Jeff:
I owned a 1972 Challenger. I was sooo SWEET! I traded it for an brand new 1979 Monte Carlo. Thought I’d done a great thing at the time. Oh what I would give to have it, or my ’68 Thunderbird, back!
My sons have told me they plan to buy me one of the new Challengers. I’ve driven old cars for the past 15 years so that we could afford to send them to Christian schools. Whether they do so or not really doesn’t matter. I wouldn’t change a thing. But, if they did figure out a way to swing it, wouldn’t that be cool!
Looks like a cool car!!!My first car was a Plymouth Duster……not exactly the same thing…
Hey Donna –
My first car was also a Duster! A 1974 with a 318 engine. I did some body work on it, had it painted, put a nice sounding exhaust on it… and then I wrecked it just before I went to college.
I’d like to have that car back.
The first car I wrecked was a Duster – my daddy’s work car!
My son and I saw it at the NA Auto Show, too. Call us next year — we go every year — and we’ll join you. Duncan wants one SO bad. He is driving a 74 Gran Torino in perfect shape, but it doesn’t have air conditioning and most Marine bases are in hot areas, so I told him when he earns his 2nd Lieutenant bars I’ll buy him a new car. I think he wants the Challenger. I was hoping he’d ask for a ’97 Kia, but, well, you know.
Hey Patrick… my first car was a red ’72 Torino… I blew the engine!
My daddy was a little peeved after the Duster incident and then the engine thing. Who knew you really SHOULD check the oil?
Cool car. I have seen it in photos. Detroit (or Germany) has decided to bring some class back to cars. Now if only we could get awesome gas milage with a Hemi . . .

Make mine Navy Blue in and out, Thank you. My birthday is at the end of the month…do you think turning 34 is reason enough for my Dad to buy me this car? Yeah, I know I’m an adult now…buy my own car ~sigh~
BTW, my first sweet ride was a 1984 Dodge Omni. It was mostly blue – the Driver’s door was a different color than the rest of the car. I had a cookie sheet on the back floor board so Barney Rubble didn’t have to ride with me, and it had a distinct musty smell to it. Best $300.00 I ever spent!
Not bad! Personally, I prefer the Camaro that GM showed off at the auto show this year. Keenan and I went to the Minneapolis show and took a couple of pictures of this hot car. See album titled “Camaro!!”

This brand takes me back to the days at the mushroom plant. Didn’t Rick Kopec have one of these? I’m hoping GM builds it!!!

Love your post! Now if they would just bring back the Chevrolet SS 396!
DU
We liked the Camaro, too. Probably preferred the Challenger, but they were both great. I thought GM was definitely going to build the Camaro, but I haven’t heard anything since the Auto Show. Dodge will be able to build the Challenger quickly because they’re going to use the Charger platform.
Kopec had a Firebird, which is basically the same car.
