It is great to work with elders who truly SHEPHERD the congregation (I previously worked with elders who saw themselves as the Board of Directors). In our elders/ministers meeting this week, we spent nearly 45 minutes in prayer for the congregation — and this is commonplace in our meetings. Our elders visit members, pray with the sick, and counsel with those who are struggling.
You may be thinking, “What’s the big deal? Isn’t this what all elders do?” Well, the answer is, No. These are the things all elders should do, but my experience has showed me that not all elders are interested in Shepherding.
I am thankful to God for the 6 godly men who lead and shepherd our congregation.

Thanks for those thoughts Jeff! I must say that as of late I am discouraged by the lack of shepherding we as youth ministers receive from our eldership. My husband told them Monday night that he needs their encouragement. One of them, who is currently dissatisfied with my husband (as an employee), told him that he doesn’t see anything he can or should encourage. We are struggling! You are very blessed to have a SHEPHERDING group of men in your congregation. You have renewed my hope that men like that are out there. We train men to be youth ministers and pulpit ministers, why aren’t we training men to be shepherds?
We have a fantastic group down here at Vaughn Park as well. Tonight was 2 weeks since my Mom went to Heaven. Our Elders pulled my Dad out of class to ask how he was doing and to pray over him. That’s how they are supposed to act but you and Nikki are right, not all of them do. I’m thankful for the good men that we have at VP.
Blessings
Ed
