Don’t buy into the “message” behind the movie “The Day After Tomorrow.” According to a scientist who wrote an op-ed piece in USA Today (read it here), the “science” in the film is a bunch of hooey. I’ve always been very hesitant to buy into the latest threat from the Chicken Little environmentalists. When I was a kid (in the 70′s) it was the population explosion and then the ice age. Now it is global warming. I wonder what the threat du jour will be 20 years from now…..

I Did It!
Well, I hit the road today (for the first time in several months). I ran almost two miles, but it was difficult. I’ve got a long, tough road ahead in the next month or two. But at least I took the first step!
A Journey of 1000 miles begins with one step…
I am very much out of shape and need to start running again (a few years ago I was an avid runner, logging between 20 and 30 miles a week). Today may be the day I begin the long road back. I really enjoy running (once I’m back into shape) and have found that it is the only way I can keep my weight down. I’m not about to diet — I especially avoid the fad diets (like Atkins). Any diet that eliminates bread is just wrong (and borderline sinful). I’ve found that if I run on a regular basis, I don’t really have to worry about how I eat. I’ve always wanted to run a marathon (I’ve run two half marathons on two different occasions, but I don’t think that counts). I’ll let you know how my return to running goes. If I survive it…..
Go Pistons!
What an incredible play by Tashawn Prince last night. As Reggie Miller goes in for the game-tying layup with 17 seconds left, Prince comes out of nowhere and blocks the shot! Pistons win and take home court advantage. I’m not a big NBA fan, but I have followed the Pistons since the early 80′s when they were the worst team in the league. Their titles in ’89 and ’90 were fun, and I’m looking forward to another one.
Power in the Blood
We had a good Sunday yesterday. On Sunday morning, I’m preaching a series called “Understanding the Passion.” We’re taking an in-depth look at the cross of Christ. Yesterday, I preached on the meaning of the blood. Take a close look at the Bible, and there is blood everywhere. Hopefully we now have a better understanding of the meaning and power of the blood. But even after studying it, there is still an element of mystery. But that’s OK. Mystery is part of our faith and we should embrace it.
I’m Diving In!
Well, I’m getting my feet wet. I’m jumping on the “Blogging” bandwagon. We’ll see how this goes. I wonder if I’ll still be doing this this one year from now. Or even six months. We’ll see!
